Code of Conduct

The Elkford Chamber of Commerce is committed to fostering a professional, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative business community. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected of Chamber members, directors, staff, volunteers, event participants, and others engaging in Chamber activities.

Participation in the Elkford Chamber of Commerce community should contribute positively to an environment where businesses and individuals can connect, collaborate, exchange ideas, and participate respectfully.

Respectful & Professional Conduct

Individuals participating in Chamber activities are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect, professionalism, and courtesy.
  • Communicate respectfully, including when opinions or perspectives differ.
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, or threatening behaviour.
  • Respect personal and professional boundaries.
  • Act in a manner that supports constructive relationships within the business community.
  • Respect Chamber staff, directors, volunteers, members, guests, speakers, partners, and event participants.

Disagreement and healthy debate are welcome, but personal attacks, abusive behaviour, harassment, or intentionally disruptive conduct are not.

Chamber Events & Activities

This Code of Conduct applies to Chamber-hosted or organized activities, including meetings, networking events, workshops, programs, business visits, conferences, online activities, and other Chamber functions.

Participants are expected to behave responsibly and respectfully and to follow any additional rules, safety requirements, or venue policies associated with an event or activity.

Inclusive Participation

The Elkford Chamber of Commerce values participation from businesses, organizations, entrepreneurs, and community members with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and ideas.

Discrimination or harassment based on characteristics protected under applicable human rights legislation will not be tolerated within Chamber activities.

Confidentiality & Privacy

Members and participants may occasionally receive or become aware of information that is confidential, sensitive, or not intended for public distribution.

Individuals are expected to respect the confidentiality and privacy of others and not share confidential business, personal, or Chamber information without appropriate permission.

Participation in a Chamber meeting, program, or conversation does not automatically give permission to publicly share information disclosed by another participant.

Business Integrity

Members are expected to conduct themselves and their businesses professionally and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Membership in the Elkford Chamber of Commerce does not constitute certification, accreditation, or a guarantee of the products, services, practices, or conduct of an individual business or organization.

Members must not represent themselves as speaking on behalf of the Elkford Chamber of Commerce unless specifically authorized to do so.

Chamber Advocacy

The Chamber regularly engages in advocacy on issues affecting Elkford's business community.

Individual members may hold different opinions on issues considered by the Chamber. Members are welcome to express their own views but should not represent their personal position as an official position of the Elkford Chamber of Commerce unless authorized to do so.

Members are encouraged to bring business concerns and advocacy issues to the Chamber for consideration.

Conflicts of Interest

Directors, staff, volunteers, committee participants, and others acting on behalf of the Chamber are expected to disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest where appropriate and avoid using their Chamber role for improper personal or business advantage.

Additional conflict-of-interest requirements may apply under Chamber bylaws, governance policies, employment agreements, or other organizational policies.

Use of Chamber Information & Communications

Chamber contact lists, member information, communication platforms, and other Chamber resources must be used responsibly.

Access to Chamber membership or participation in Chamber activities should not be used to engage in harassment, inappropriate solicitation, spam, or other conduct that could negatively affect members or the Chamber community.

Concerns & Complaints

Concerns regarding conduct connected to Chamber activities may be brought to the attention of the Elkford Chamber of Commerce.

Concerns will be reviewed based on the circumstances and, where appropriate, may be referred to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, or another appropriate party.

The Chamber will make reasonable efforts to handle concerns respectfully, fairly, and with appropriate discretion. Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where disclosure is necessary to appropriately review or respond to a concern.

Failure to Follow the Code of Conduct

Depending on the nature and severity of the circumstances, the Elkford Chamber of Commerce may take reasonable action in response to conduct that is inconsistent with this Code.

This may include a conversation or warning, removal from an event or activity, restrictions on participation, or referral to the Board of Directors for further consideration.

Any decision relating to the suspension or termination of membership will be handled in accordance with the Chamber's bylaws and applicable policies.
